Ask Ron Paul: What Is ‘Honest Rape’?

By Lindsay Beyerstein

Libertarian presidential hopeful Ron Paul said last week that he'd be okay with emergency contraception for victims of "honest rape."

Which raises the question, "What is honest rape?"

Is it rape from the sweat of the hardworking rapist's brow? As opposed to the good-for-nothing entitlement rape we see so much of nowadays?

When a person has actually been raped as opposed to conveniently claiming to have been raped after consensual intercourse to perhaps either get treatment and/or to punish the partner.

No doubt that’s what Paul intends. But that only means he subscribes to the knuckle-dragger attitude that unless a woman is beaten, bruised, cut up and generally assaulted resisting sex, it’s a case of he-said/she-said. No matter how much other coercion or incapacitation was involved.

If you follow the whole interview, Ron Paul doesn’t believe it needs to be a law as it’s almost impossible to enforce. He says that the only way to get people to stop abortions is through improving society / morality / honesty.

Ron Paul is an OB/GYN and said he would administer a shot of estrogen (not really an abortion anyway as how would you know if an egg has been fertilized) if someone came to him claiming rape. Although, I’m sure he would get suspicious if a woman came in multiple times, as there’s bigger problems if she is actually getting raped that often.

The hypothetical bogeywoman who uses EC or abortion as routine contraception would sure as shit have a different OB/GYN than Ron Paul.

Which is why so many women don’‘t report it.  Most likely the only crime where a female is the guilty party until she proves her innocence if she is an adult. If a man reports a rape by another man..little doubt it happened. If a child reports it..little doubt. A virgin, Nun..older woman…little doubt.
